Why Malta - Entertainment

Entertainment on Malta takes a variety of forms. For example, a developing area comes in the form of golf courses; currently the island has one serviceable course with more planned for development. The Royal Malta Golf Club is part of the Marsa Sports Club. Here, visitors can partake of different sports, including archery, squash, and tennis. The course is an 18-hole affair. Those attending the club may also choose to use a driving range to practice their swings. There is also a pro shop, where you can buy merchandise or rent golf clubs for the day. It is entirely possible to receive instructions from a resident PGA golf professional, regardless of whether you are a member or a visitor.

The Maltese islands are a diver’s paradise. Whether you are an experienced diver or a just starting out, there are great locations for you to explore. The waters are completely accessible no matter where you’re coming from and are warm, tide-free, clear, and above all, safe. You can enjoy over 30 meters of visibility, allowing you to take in the lush underwater scenery and fauna. The islands’ dive sites include cave, wrecks, drop-offs, and cliffs. You can go any time of the day or night, diving from boat or shore alike. Sport diving is regulated by the government. There are a host of professional and commercial diving centers that provide quality and well-maintained equipment. These facilities meet internationally recognized standards.

Furthermore, the government requires that anyone who wishes to dive must obtain a local diving permit. This permit, the C-card, issued by Malta’s Health Department can be purchased for about €2.33. In addition, the diver should have a recent medical certificate, two passport-sized photos, and a diving logbook/qualification record, with two documented CMAS 2 Stars. The C-card is not necessary if you are accompanied by a locally qualified instructor. These permits are renewable on an annual basis, typically on January 1st.

Malta also offers something for the boating enthusiasts. If visiting the islands, one can take advantage of a variety of yachting facilities, each with fine marinas. Both serviced and unserviced quays can be rented at decent rates.

Along with a yacht’s registration book, if you wish to rent a yacht, you will need to provide passports covering all crew members and passengers. These should be presented to Customs and Immigration officials in order to make sure all is in order to issue the required pratique. If you wish to make berth at one of these yachting centers, you may make throw anchor in midstream in the facility until a specific berth is provided to you by the berthing master. This person may be contacted by calling the yachting center office, or on VHF channel 19.
