Why Malta - Importation of Pets
Once approval is received from legitimate authorities, healthy pets may be imported. It is possible that some pets may be required to remain in quarantine for a certain period of time.
Prior to traveling to Malta, one should be certain that the pet has a current veterinary health certificate that is issued by a professional veterinarian. This certificate should state that the animal is in good health and does not show evidence of parasitic infection or disease, and that it has received recent vaccination for rabies no less than a month and no more than six months before transportation.
When you plan to transport a pet to Malta, it is necessary to notify the Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Veterinary Service about the exact date of arrival for the animal, giving at least a week’s notice. It is also important to clarify whether an animal will be accompanied. If needed, the Ministry may be contacted via telephone at +356 21239968 or +356 21225930. The Quarantine Station may be called at +356 21244236 to provide details about the flight or vessel the animal is arriving on.
